David A. McCain is a photographer and RYT-200 Hatha yoga instructor from North Pole, Alaska, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a concentration in photography and printmaking.
Inspired by the raw, DIY ethos of punk rock music his work is a visual riot that reveals the gritty reality of our unchecked waste and confronts the toxic inheritance of rampant consumerism. Through the use of erratic, hand-applied chemistry, he transforms the gelatin silver photo paper into active sites of contamination, mimicking the heavy metals and forever chemicals that leach into our soils and bloodstreams. These resulting distortions act as chaotic feedback and serve as the literal screams of a poisoned Earth refusing to surrender.
